The NSS Wing of KIIT University was inaugurated by Commissioner-cum-Secretary to the Government of Orissa, Department of Mass Education, Sports & Youth Services, Mr. S. C. Pattanaik, IAS, here on Thursday. The wing has a starting strength of over 600.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Mr. Pattanaik expressed hope that KIIT NSS wing will evolve as the best in the country in near future. "Age group of 18 to 35 is crucial period during which a person can contribute significantly in the process of nation building", he told the NSS volunteers, and suggested them to draw an annual calendar of activity and work systematically to make a difference. He promised all possible support from the State Government to upscale the activities of the newly inaugurated wing for social good of a poor State like Orissa.
Expressing gratitude to the authorities for commissioning the NSS wing of KIIT University, its Chancellor, Dr. A. Samanta said that with this, a long cherished desire of students, faculty and management of this institution has come true. Stressing that social service has been the central philosophy of all activities of KIIT, he exhorted the volunteers to work hard to enrich themselves and their community.
Speaking on the occasion, NSS State Head, Regional Centre, Government of India, Ms. Sarita Patel reminded the volunteers that NSS is a big family and has potential to provide relaxation through its constructive activities and mutual interaction among volunteers.
Spread and reach of NSS is fairly wide and it has few parallels in the world, observed Prod. S. C. De Sarkar, Vice Chancellor of KIIT University in his presidential address. He underscored the role of Programme Officers in sustaining this wing as an exemplary unit.
In his keynote address, Dr. R. N. Ray, Registrar, KIIT University explained the philosophy, motto, objectives and principles of NSS. Dr. Sucheta Priyabadini, Deputy Registrar asked the volunteers to emulate their Chancellor as a role model. Dr. Samanta has been unanimously chosen as the Vice President of National Scouts and Guides, she informed the applauding audience.
